Public Benefits

Our public benefits program helps people access essential support they might not otherwise afford. For many families, public benefits are their primary source of income, food, health coverage, or assistance with disabilities. A sudden change in circumstances can result in the loss of benefits or overpayments, potentially jeopardizing their stability and well-being.

Social Security

Social Security retirement benefits provide monthly financial support to individuals who have reached retirement age and paid into the system through payroll taxes. This benefit helps seniors cover essential living expenses during retirement.

Supplemental Security Income

Supplemental security income (SSI) is a needs-based program subject to resource limitations. You cannot have over $2,000 in cash or other resources, such as land or a home other than where you live.

SNAP Benefits

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a government-funded program that helps individuals and families in need of food. You must be a United States citizen or an eligible non-citizen to receive SNAP.

MEDICAID/MEDICARE

Healthcare benefit programs are available to help those who need help with health insurance and paying for medical expenses. These programs may provide access to preventative care, mental health services, and more.

TANF

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is a program that provides financial assistance, job training programs, and childcare services.

Veteran Legal Issues

We are proud to serve low-income Veterans and their families. We provide services including assistance with divorce, custody, public benefits, housing issues, income maintenance, and consumer issues.

Online Resources

Acadiana Legal Service Corporation partners with many resources across Louisiana to provide you with the most current legal education available. We offer a wide range of topics to help you find the legal information you need. Browse our brochures and connect with our partners for more legal topics to help you understand if you have a civil legal issue and whether you want to pursue legal action as a self-represented litigant (SRL) or hire an attorney. All legal resources, including articles and court forms, available on our website can help you better understand and advocate for your rights. However, these resources should not replace legal advice from qualified attorneys licensed in Louisiana who are familiar with your specific legal issue. Always seek legal advice directly from a lawyer.
