ALSC focuses on various civil law issues including Family Law, Child in Need of Care, Disaster Recovery, Domestic Violence, Public Benefits, Elder Law, Successions, Housing, and Consumer Law. Nature of Work

The Disaster Driver & Facilities Assistant position combines the responsibilities of safely transporting our Disaster RV or van to designated outreach events and providing support in maintaining and managing our facilities and fleet operations.

General Duties

Duties may include and are not limited to:

Primary Role – Disaster Vehicle Driver:

  • Operate the Justice RV & Bus during and after the Disaster grant
  • Drive, set up, and break down, the disaster vehicles for all outreach events
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the RV and bus are in good working condition
  • Clean the disaster vehicles (internally and externally)
  • Coordinate with the outreach team to plan routes and schedules
  • All other relevant assignments as required by the supervisor

Secondary Role – Facilities assistance:

  • Conduct routine inspections of fleet and facilities to identify maintenance needs
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of company facilities, including organization and minor and emergency repairs.
  • Clean office vehicles (internally and externally) (Lafayette cars mainly)
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of company cars, including scheduling and delivery of the vehicles for services, inspection, and maintenance
  • Arrange, assemble, and move furniture, equipment, boxes, etc. as needed
  • Assist with setting up and dismantling equipment for all events and meetings
  • Assist in ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for employees and visitors at all locations.
  • Assist with implementing security measures and safety protocols to protect all facilities, occupants, and assets
  • Report larger maintenance issues to the relevant department
  • Report any security concerns or suspicious activities
  • Contact and meet with vendors at the different offices as instructed by the supervisor
  • All other tasks relevant to the position as assigned by the supervisor

Necessary Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Basic understanding and some experience in construction, maintenance, building security, and or facility operations
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and fixing minor plumbing issues.
  • Physical ability to lift or carry up to 50 lbs and perform tasks such as pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, stooping, reaching, and standing for extended periods
  • Possession of a valid Louisiana Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
  • Availability and willingness to drive and travel regularly within our service area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent
  • 2 years or more experience
