LaWanda
B. Gibson holds a juris doctor degree from Loyola University School of Law, New
Orleans. LaWanda also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from
Louisiana State
University. Prior to joining Acadiana Legal Service Corporation, she was in
private practice in New Orleans. While enrolled at Loyola University School of
Law, LaWanda was a Gillis Long Summer Intern, spending her first summer
internship with Acadiana Legal Service Corporation during the summer of 1992.
LaWanda is a member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, and serves on the
Lafayette Volunteer Lawyers (LVL) Advisory Board, and the Editorial Board of the
Lafayette Parish Bar Association’s quarterly publication, The Promulgator.
In the October, 2003 issue of The Promulgator, LaWanda authored Recent
Developments in Domestic Violence Law, a summary of the Domestic Violence
enactments and modifications by the 2003 General Session of the Louisiana
Legislature. LaWanda is also a member of the Family Law Section of the American
Bar Association and the National Bar Association.
